Vision

The vision of UCAN is to continue developing a string of  income generating, sustainable, multi-tiered, projects in South Western Uganda.  These projects will then eventually fund the education and welfare of orphans and vulnerable children in rural disadvantaged communities of South Western Uganda.

                                     How UCAN Model is different:

UCAN is not a hand out approach, but a hand up approach. "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime" (Author unknown). UCAN Model does not foster dependency. Our model is designed to empower indigenous people,  enabling them to come out of poverty by providing local employment, modeling productive farming methods, and providing health care for their communities.    Many of our children become orphans as a result of high mortality rates among their parents.   UCAN, by offering preventative and remedial health services to the community, will allow the community to become a stakeholder and a partner to eradicate not only poverty, but reduce high levels of mortality rates which in turn will eliminate orphaned children.

Revenue Stream #1:

Education

Offering a quality educational program will attract parents who are able to afford market rate tuitions. Retained earnings will be used to offset the cost of providing scholarships for orphans and vulnerable children. Currently, this program only applies to our primary education program. However, UCAN’s long term vision goal is to expand this to include higher education as well.

Revenue Stream #2:

Technical School

Plans are underway to establish a vocational and technical school, which will equip orphans and vulnerable children, with vocational and technical skills needed in the marketplace. The same vocational and technical school will however,  charge market rate tuition to NON-orphan /vulnerable students.

Revenue Stream #3:

Health Services

UCAN Village Hospital aims to improve the health and well-being of our children especially the orphaned and vulnerable Children (OVCs).  Our Health programs will strengthen child and community resilience and contribute to the acceleration of access to improved medical treatment for treatable diseases thereby eliminating high mortality rates.     Income generated from offering these medical services will be used to offer scholarships to our orphans and vulnerable children.

Revenue Stream #4:

Farming

It is believed that Uganda has the potential to grow enough food to feed all of Africa due to its fertile land and abundant rainfall throughout the year. UCAN, which is located in South Western Uganda, intends to use this advantage, to grow crops and raise live stock to feed its student body.   UCAN will sell the surplus goods, crops and livestock, at a premium. Proceeds will be used for scholarships and welfare for our orphans/vulnerable children.
